-As Education District II records landslide victory at the 21st edition

Etiyemonu Esther Ogechukwukama of Lagos State Senior Model College, Igbokuta, in Imota Local Council Area (LCDA) of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, has emerged the overall winner of the 21st edition of the Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition, demonstrating outstanding brilliance and composure.
This feat qualifies her to become the next One Day Governor, where she would have the opportunity to act in the capacity of Governor of Lagos State, and perform official state functions. She was presented with N1million as star prize.
The grand finale of the competition, also witnessed Education District II achieved a remarkable feat, securing all three top positions in an unforgettable display of academic excellence. It was a historic and astonishing moment for District II, underscoring the district’s unwavering commitment to nurturing academic excellence and holistic student development.

The winner was closely followed by Dorcas Oluyinka Awoyemi of Ikosi Senior High School, who clinched the 2nd position, while Jumai Olaide Salami of Angus Memorial Senior High School, proudly took the 3rd position. They received sum of N750, 000 and N500, 000 respectively.
At the grand finale on Wednesday, held at the Eko FM Multi-purpose Hall, the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Ali-Balogun, presented trophies and awards to the outstanding students.
While congratulating the champions, their teachers, and school administrators, the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Mr Omotayo Layemo Sanni commended their dedication, discipline, and commitment to excellence. He praised the collective effort that produced such an exceptional achievement, describing the winners as shining ambassadors of the District.

Highlighting the District’s recent successes across various competitions, the TG/PS noted that since assuming office, it has been “laurels upon laurels, a clear testament that Education District II is working tirelessly and effectively to maintain its enviable standard of excellence”.
Mr. Sanni further encouraged the students to continue striving for excellence and uphold the values of hard work and resilience that brought them this far.
He also lauded the Principals and teachers for their unwavering support and selflessness in nurturing the learners.
He reaffirmed the District’s commitment to sustaining quality education, promoting healthy academic competition, and continually celebrating outstanding performance among students and staff.

“Education District II continues to soar, reaffirming its position as a leading light in academic excellence across the State”, he noted.
The event also had in attendance several distinguished personalities, including Tutors-General/Permanent Secretaries District III, Mr. Olusegun Osinaike, District I, Dr. Olufunke Ìdòwú Oyetola, and District V, and Mr. Dauda Hassan, who joined other dignitaries, parents, teachers, and well-wishers in celebrating the exceptional achievements of the students.
Master Abdulazeez Abdulrahmon, a former student of Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, also from Education District II, was the last winner of the annual statewide competition.
